Self-Portrait Collage 2022

Artist

Kati has been making art her entire life, and now that she is not a full-time teacher, she is a full-time artist! Watercolor painting, drawing, and making artist’s books are her primary activities, with a little fiber art now and then, too. With more time to observe, draw, and paint, she is excited about the possibilities of sharing her work in a marketable way, with her entrepreneurial venture, Kati Kards.

Inspired by her niece, Nia, who always loves the fun cards Kati makes for every family event and life transition, Kati is following her advice: “You should go into the card-making business!”

& Art Teacher

For 30 fabulous years, Kati taught middle school students in a comprehensive fine art program and elementary students in creative, nature-and-art summer camps. Most recently, she has taught adult classes in indigo dyeing, watercolor painting, and drawing nature journals - something she discovered through her summer camp students and numerous artists and writers she has come into contact with over many years. She believes in the joie de faire and shares equally in the wonder and practice of creative minds.

Kati earned a Master of Arts Education degree from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She also attended the University of Michigan where she studied Art History. Kati has taught at independent schools and community programs in Montgomery County, MD, Alexandria, VA, Silver Spring, MD and Boston, MA.
